Penguins Attic Yarn Shop opened recently and over on their Instagram feed they ran a giveaway. 10 boxes of yarn were sent out to 10 crafters who were randomly selected. I was lucky enough to be selected by the randomiser and today I received my mystery box.... It arrived while I was out walking Sophie, my ring notification came up on the phone and I was hit with the dilemma to rush back for squ...

Thumb Cast On : Knitting Basics

This is a simple and fast way to get started on a long width project. No counting for the yarn needed, as with a long tail cast on. Just your thumb a needle and some yarn. This cast on is also sometimes known as the e loop as that is the shape of the yarn before you slide it onto the right hand needle. What is the advantage of casting on with the Thumb Cast On method? It creates a stretchy cast...

This stitch has been on my todo list for ages. It is full of memories of sleep overs at my Grandparents house when I was a child, back in the 70's. The blanket was a yellow and lime green combination, very typical of the decade. This is a stitch with a lot of texture and warmth, although the original was a scratchy blanket with starched sheets beneath which did little to provide a comfortable n...

Magic Circle Knitting 🧶

For those new to using a circular needle they can feel quite intimidating. A great long cable just hanging around getting in the way. How to work the stitches while it ends up feeling like you're wrangling an octopus? The technique which makes this ‘magic’ is something I have always done naturally, yet I have seen classes on this method alone costing $30… Used in my FREE #springshawlkal2021 you...

Foundation Row Stitch of the Week

Once I discovered that you could create a foundation row not just a chain when you begin a project. Officially my mind was blown! This is a really simple process and it gets a new project up and running far faster and without the fiddly faffing with individual chain stitches. If you've never tried it I strongly suggest you give it a go. 🧶Written blog with examples and details of starting chain ...

🧶With Burn's Night on the horizon my mind always turns to tartans and plaid. My American friends refer often to Buffalo Plaid, which is a red, burgundy and black version with larger squares and no thin lines of colour, more normally seen in traditional tartans. 🧶As this is a simpler form I'll start these plaid tutorials with a Buffalo style which is also, handily, perfect for beginners. I will ...

Reverse Crochet or Crabstitch borders are a wonderful way of finishing a blanket, scarf or cowl with only a single round of sc (US terms) or dc (UK terms). Reverse Crochet / Crabstitch literally goes against the grain of the natural crochet by being worked in the opposite direction to your standard crochet stitches. 🧶 Detailed written instructions: www.babsgetscrafty.com/post/stitch-of-the-week...
